Full description
The Municipality of Mudgee was proclaimed on 21 February 1860 under the Municipalities Act of 1858 (22 Vic No.13). (1)
After some delay in appointing a returning officer, the first meeting of the electors of the municipality was held on 1 May 1860. (2) At this meeting, candidates for Council were nominated and, on 15 May, a poll was held. (3)
The first meeting of the Council was held on 29 May 1860 at which the aldermen elected R. R. Hughson as Mudgee's first mayor. (4)
On 1 July 1975, the Shire of Cudgegong was amalgamated with the Municipality of Mudgee to form the Shire of Mudgee. (5)
Mudgee Shire Council was abolished on 26 May, its area falling within the new Mid-Western Regional Council. (6)
