Full description

A second special school was opened at Brush Farm at Eastwood in May 1927. (1) An earlier school had operated there from 1896 to 1913 when the site was used as a boys' home. (2)

Special schools were 'conducted within government premises set aside for children committed to government care for long or short periods, and for a variety of reasons. Control of these schools, previously exercised sometimes by the Department of Education and sometimes by the department handling child welfare, was transferred to the Department of Education in 1981.' (3) 

Brush Farm [II] Special School closed in December 1985. (4)
