Under authority of the District Courts Act, 1858 the Bathurst District Court was set down for hearings on 9 May, 1859 .(1).The District Courts Act 1858 prescribed that every District court was a Court of Record (2)
On 1 October 1861 Thomas C. Gore was appointed Registrar at Bathurst District Court.(3) The Court was in the Western District (4) and exercised civil jurisdiction only.
The District Court at Bathurst was reconstituted on 1 July 1973 when the District Court aquired a Criminal Jurisdiction in lieu of the Courts of General and Quarter Sessions that were abolished.
