The Export and Import Branch appears to have been created in the first half of 1914. (1).The main function and responsibilities of the Branch included: Examination of Horticultural products for import under the Commonwealth Quarantine (Fruit) Act (1908), examination of Fruit for export under the Commonwealth Commerce Act (1905), recording of statistics on the import and export of fruit and vegetables interstate, responsibility for the fumigation and treatment of fruit for export, and managing inspections for fruit pests under the Vines and Vegetable Disease and Fruit Pest Act 1906 (No. 37, 1906). The Branch was also responsible for the management of the Fumigation chamber.
The Branch was incorporated into the Division of Horticulture in the first half of 1941. (3)
