In 1940 the Department of Agriculture was restructured, and the 30 existing branches were reduced to eight divisions. The Chemical, Botanical, Entomological, Biological Branches, along with Plant Pathology, and Bacteriological sections were amalgamated into the Division of Science Services. The Division was created in the first half of 1941. (1)
The main function of the Chemistry Branch was to bring to the agricultural and related industries the benefits of research in and knowledge of chemistry and related sciences with particular reference to soils, waters, plant nutrition, cereals, pesticides, and dairy chemistry. (2)
By the end of 1970 the Division of Science Services had been renamed the Biological and Chemical Research Institute. (3)
During 1992, the functions of Biological and Chemical Research Institute including the Chemistry Branch were transferred to the Division of Plant Industries. (4)
