Full description

The Division of Employment was established following the proclamation of the first Greiner-Murray government on 25 March 1988. The Division replaced the former Ministry of Employment. The role of the Division was as follows:
To provide advice on and develop initiatives to maximise the growth of employment in NSW;
To develop and manage State and Federal job creation programs;
To carry out detailed labour market analysis, monitor the impact of structural change on employment and review the constraints on employment growth in NSW in association with the State Treasury;
To advise the Government on the employment impacts of Government and State policies; and
To advise the Government of the employment impacts of government policies and industrial and commercial development in close consultation with the Treasury and the Department of Industrial Development and Decentralisation. (1) The Division administered the following programs:
Community Employment Program
NSW Government Youth Employment Scheme
Youth Employment Payroll Tax Incentive Scheme
NSW Government Technical Jobs for Women program and
Management Skills in the Community Sector Program (2) The Division serviced the Employment Advisory Council that provided communication and consultation between the State Government, the Trade Union movement and the private sector concerning employment creation in New South Wales. (3) BY 1989 the Division had beome part of a larger unit - The Employment and Training Division. Endnotes
