Full description

Woolooma Provisional School [II] in the County of Durham opened on 13 February, 1957. Provisional Schools were developed to provide education to children in areas with a small school population. By February 1957 the minimum number of pupils required to commence a provisional school was twelve. The parents usually provided the premises for the school while the Department of Education supplied the teacher and teaching materials.

The classification of 'provisional school ' was discontinued during 1957. Instead the minimum number of pupils required for a public school was reduced to nine. In accordance with this the Woolooma School was converted to a public school in July 1957. Public schools proved elementary education at primary level. Woolooma Public School [II] closed on 12 December 1974. (1)
