Full description

The Legislation Committee was established after the Interim Council of the Riverina College of Advanced Education (RCAE) thought it appropriate to lay down the principles which would become the rules and regulations of the College. (1) The inaugural meeting of the Legislative Committee was convened on March 12, 1971. (2) The membership of the Legislative Committee consisted of ; the Principal; the Bursar; the College’s legal representative; a member of the academic staff of the College; a member of the administrative staff of the College; the Chairman of the Interim Council; and an Executive member of the Interim Council. (3) The functions of the Legislative Committee, approved by the Interim Council, were:
a. to advise Interim Council on all matters referred to it by the Interim Council or its committees relating to College by-laws, rules, regulations and conditions of service.
b. to advise Interim Council on the formal regulations which stem from the Higher Education Act and from the by-laws promulgated under that Act. (4)
The final meeting of the Legislative Committee took place on August 9, 1973, by which time, the vast majority of the College’s rules, by-laws and regulations had already been put into place by the Legislation Committee. (5) Notes:
