The Sydney Olympic Broadcasting Organisation (SOBO) was formally established in October 1996 with its own Charter and Board (1). The Board consisted of the Chairman, (Hon Michael Knight, MP, Minister for the Olympics) its Chief Executive (Mr Manolo Romero), three members of the Sydney Organising Committee for the Olympic Games (SOCOG ) Board (Messers Phil Coles, Sandy Hollway and John Valder) and a representative of Seven Network Limited (Mr Allan Bateman). The Sydney Olympic Broadcasting Organisation (SOBO) reports directly to SOCOG through its Board. It fulfills obligations under the Host City Contract and the SOCOG Act, 1993 in respect of the facilities services and other requirements for electronic coverage and radio and television broadcasting of the Games of the XXVI Olympiad, as defined in the International Olympic Committee Broadcasting Guide (2).
