Full description

An Act to Provide for the appointment of a Commissioner in lieu of the Prickly-pear Destruction Board, 1925 (Act No 4., 1925) established the Prickly-pear Destruction Commission. While the act was proclaimed to commence on the 9 November 1925, (1) the Commission did not effectively commence until February, 1926 due to time necessary for the recruitment of staff and equipment and the general organisation of the Commission. (2)

The business of the Commission included the inspection of infected lands and assessment of infestation, distribution of poison and sale of appliances for the application of poison, and issuing notices to remove the pests. The Commission itself undertook some land clearance mostly from government-owned land (commonwealth, state or local) (3).

The Commission was abolished under the Miscellaneous Acts (Prickly Pear) Repeal and Amendment Act, 1987 (Act No.,203 1987) on 1 January 1988. (4)
