Full description
The Prickly-pear Destruction Board was constituted under the provisions of the Prickly-pear Act, 1924 (1), which was proclaimed on 31 March 1925 (2). The Prickly-pear Destruction Board consisted of three members appointed by the Governor (3). This Act made provisions for the classification of land affected by prickly pear, eradication of prickly-pear, and in some cases provided for the supply of poison. It authorised the setting apart, leasing, or grant of prickly-pear infested areas of Crown lands upon terms and conditions providing for the eradication of prickly-pear. It imposed obligations to eradicate prickly-pear upon the occupiers of land and local authorities (3). Under the Act, the term "Board" related to the Prickly-pear Destruction Board, or, in the Western Division of the State, the Western Lands Board of New South Wales. Under this Act the responsibility of eradicating prickly-pear on stock routes fell to the Pastures Protection Board (4). On the 9 November 1925 the Prickly-pear (Amendment) Act, 1925 (Act No.4, 1925) was proclaimed This amending Act appointed a Commissioner in lieu of the Prickly-pear Destruction Board, and hence constituted the Prickly-pear Destruction Commission .
