Research Project
Full description Concrete actions are urgently needed to preserve and restore biodiversity. Organisations are beginning to become aware of the importance of assessing and reporting on the impact of their activities on biodiversity, and vice versa. Relevant, reliable and contextualised indicators and measurement methods are needed but are currently lacking. In this study, we develop a new approach which incorporates natural and human-societal capital into traditional (financial) accounting. Our approach, based in extinction accounting, encompasses the decline in biodiversity as well as potential for conservation and restoration to capture a more realistic view of the cost of species extinction.
