Full description

The project focussed on low-grade metamorphism and hydrothermal alteration of mafic lava flows in the Maddina Formation of the Archaean Fortescue Group in the Hamersley Basin (as originally defined), Pilbara region of Western Australia.
The study follows on from that of White et al., 2014a and 2014b, as well as legacy data of R E Smith from 1973 on. It focused on metamorphic Zone 1 of Smith et al., 1982. Emphasis was on authigenic mineral growth due to prehnite-pumpellyite grade metamorphism and the impact of associated metasomatism described by these authors.
Lineage: Most of the work centered on petrographic, mineralogic and scanning electron microscopic study of mafic lava samples collected by Ray Smith from 1973 to 2017.
