The Yarra-Melbourne Regional Library Corporation was established in October 1995 by agreement between the City of Yarra and the City of Melbourne. Following competetive tendering, the Regional Library Service was provided by the 'In House Team' under a contract arrangement from 1 July 1996 until 30 June 2000.The Yarra-Melbourne Regional Library was responsible for library service policy and planning on behalf of the City of Yarra and City of Melbourne.
In April 2007, Yarra Libraries was established as a business unit of Council following the dissolution of the Yarra-Melbourne Regional Library Corporation.
