Full description

Wyelangta Primary School originally opened as Amiets’ Track State School No. 3577 on 4 April 1908. It was originally located in a private house leased from Pettit Bros. Sawmillers.

In 1912 the Department gazetted a permanent site on the main road in Wyelangta – now called Amiets Road – where a school building was constructed to accommodate up to 66 students.

The school was well-attended, and for a time the local Mechanics Hall was also used as a classroom.

In 1920 Stalker State School No. 4028 was established to relieve overcrowding at the school, which became known as Wyelangta.

However, by 1948 there were only 8 students in attendance, Wyelangta Primary School closed in December of that year.

The local children were transferred to Lavers Hill State School No. 3569, which not long after became a Consolidated School.

Data time period: [1908 TO 1949]
