Brief description
A database was created by the WA Museum to provide easy access to information on more than 1450 documented shipwrecks in Western Australian waters. The database contains shipwrecks dating from 1622 and can be searched by: - name, - date, - type of vessel, - found/not found, - builder, - master, - owner, - region, or - any related keyword.Lineage
Maintenance and Update Frequency: irregular
Statement: The database is regularly maintained by information from public, which is a requirement under Section 17(1) of the Commonwealth Historic Shipwrecks Act, 1976 and the Western Australian Maritime Archaeology Act under Section 17(1) (http://www.museum.wa.gov.au/collections/maritime/march/wreckreporting.asp).
The Museum's Maritime Archaeologists identify, manage and inspect reported sites/relics.
