Full description
These data are the external welfare scores of a group of 1386 free-range hens that were reared with different enrichment treatments. The data include the changes in ranging behaviour, egg quality, and albumen corticosterone concentrations when hens were exposed to a stressor of range area reduction.Lineage: A group of 1386 free-range hens were reared for 16 weeks with different enrichments. As adult hens they were individually scored periodically on external health and welfare measures up to 65 weeks of age. They were also subjected to an environmental stressor of range area reduction to measure their adaptive responses. Changes in egg quality, albumen corticosterone concentrations, and ranging behaviour were measured prior to and during this stressor period.
