We also review a number of EIA modelling studies around tropical Australia associated with coastal infrastructure developments. We assess factors contributing to the accuracy in model predictions and the effectiveness of monitoring and managing the impacts during dredge operations. The key issues assessed are: (i) contemporary understanding, algorithms and parameters in sediment transport models; (ii) the process of testing and validating model predictions; and (iii) the required data for model parameter estimation and model validation. Emphasis is placed on the choice of parameters for modelling key processes for predicting the fate of dredge plumes, including flocculation, resuspension and deposition of the sediments generated through dredging.Statement: See final report&rft.creator=Sun, Chaojiao, Dr&rft.creator=Symonds, Graham, Dr&rft.date=2018&rft.coverage=westlimit=113.50; southlimit=-22.00; eastlimit=129.00; northlimit=-10.00&rft.coverage=westlimit=113.50; southlimit=-22.00; eastlimit=129.00; northlimit=-10.00&rft_rights=*All users must acknowledge the source of the material with the acknowledgment*: Data sourced from Western Australian Marine Science Institution (WAMSI) project funded by Western Australian State Government and research partners and carried out by <insert authors> from <insert organisations>&rft_rights=*Suggested attribution for use in citation*: [author(s)], Western Australian Marine Science Institution (WAMSI), [author organisation(s)], [year-of-data-download], [title], [data-access-URL], data accessed (YYYY-MM-DD).&rft_rights=*Disclaimer*: WAMSI and its Partners data, products and services are provided as is and WAMSI and its Partners do not warrant their fitness for a particular purpose. WAMSI and its Partners have made every reasonable effort to ensure high quality of the data, products and services, to the extent permitted by law the data, products and services are provided without any warranties of any kind, either expressed or implied, including without limitation any implied warranties of title, merchantability, and fitness for a particular purpose or non-infringement. WAMSI and its Partners make no representation or warranty that the data, products and services are accurate, complete, reliable or current. Brief description

In this review, we synthesize the current knowledge on several key processes for sediment transport modelling, and standard practice of sediment transport modelling around the world with a particular focus on the applicability to tropical marine waters off north Western Australia, and tropical Australia more broadly. Emphasis is placed on the choice of parameters for modelling key processes for predicting the fate of dredge plumes, including flocculation, resuspension and deposition of the sediments generated through dredging.
