Full description

Wallsend Public School in the County of Northumberland was established in July 1862. A Public School offered primary level courses, and was required to have a minimum attendance of thirty children prior to 1867, twenty five children until 1880 when the number was reduced to twenty. From 1957, the minimum number was reduced to nine.

In 1881 the School was reclassified as a Superior Public School that provided both primary and post primary education.

The School reverted to the status of 'Public School' in March 1913, until March 1928 when it became a 'Public School plus'. Public Schools plus offered courses at primary and secondary level with courses designed at a specific level. Wallsend Public School plus offered courses in Home Science and Commerce from March 1928 – March 1930

In April 1930 the School became a public school again, and was reclassified as a District Rural School in July 1932. District Rural Schools contained both primary and secondary departments, the latter offering pre-vocational courses such as agriculture, farm mechanics and rural economics for boys and horticulture and home economics for girls. The District School was short-lived and the school was reverted to the status of a Public school in January 1933.

In 2004, Wallsend School was located at Martindale Street, Wallsend in the District of Hunter/Central Coast (1)
