This series consists of a comprises wages and salary books recording the amount of wages and salaries per week or fortnight paid to employees of Melbourne Electric Supply Company (MES Co) from 1912 to 1930. The MES Co. (Electric Light and Traction Company) was established in 1901. In 1930 the company sold its electrical undertakings to the State Electricity Commission, but continued to operate as an investment company until 1937, when it went into liquidation. It is believed that the SEC maintained these books from 1930 onwards.

The wages and salary ledger (for all MES Co. employees in Melbourne and Geelong) includes the following details:

name of employee
date paid
amount paid
week/ending
yearly salary.

From 1930 onwards the salaries were paid into nominated bank accounts.
