Full description

The Public Works Department (VA 669) had wide-ranging responsibilities for all public works and buildings, including construction, maintenance and fitting out of these buildings. Other major responsibilities included roads and bridges, ports and harbours, local government and water supply.

This series records the payment or the passing for payment of accounts rendered to the Department for the provision of goods and services including payments to contractors. Details include the name of the claimant, particulars of the account, the authorisation (often being the contract number) and the amount.

Volumes are arranged according to calendar year until 1870 when they become arranged according to the financial year.
