The War Secretariat was set up by the Commission in August 1939 and disbanded in December 1945. The War Secretariat was to plan for any emergency that might affect the generation and supply of electricity to the State in wartime. This series contains all the remaining papers of the War Secretariat.

Records in the series include minutes of Commission War Council meetings, and correspondence related to regulations for lighting restrictions, lists of emergency staff, provision of emergency supplies and protection of power generation amongst many other matters.

Most of the records in the series date from between 1939 to 1945. However, the series does include some correspondence from 1929 regarding earlier plans by the Commission for the protection of the power supply in case of emergency.
