Full description
The contents of this series is diverse. The State Bank Victoria Archive (SBVA) accessioned records from throughout the State Bank organisation from the time of the Bank’s inception in 1842 to its demise in 1991. The records include correspondence and minutes of the State Bank Commissioners, correspondence of various Bank departments, selected branch records, annual reports, and Bank publications. No attempt was made to collect records of all branches. A scheme was established (in place by 1987) to collect a complete set of permanent records from specified “sample” branches.SBVA identified record series by a definition consistent with PROV definitions, viz:
A “record series” is a group of items which have been maintained in the same numerical, alphabetical, chronological or other identifiable sequence, or results from the same accumulation or filing process, or are of similar physical shape and informational content. A series may on occasion consist of only a single item, where the item has not been grouped or filed with other records.
Explanation of series date range
This series (VPRS 8933) was determined in 1995 by PROV to facilitate the transfer of the entire SBVA Main Collection to PROV in the most efficient manner. The SBVA came into being in c.1978 and continued to collect records in the Main Collection until this series was transferred to PROV in 1995. The series date range relates to the process of collecting the records and is therefore 1978 to 1995. The date range of the records in the Main Collection, and thus in VPRS 8933, is 1842 - ?1995.
