VPRS 8034 Register of Employees

Full description

The series records information relating to employees of the Prahran Council. The P1 consignment, which is assumed to be the only record extant, contains entries arranged in sections which are alphabetical by first letter of employee's surname. The information is recorded in columns headed name; age; date of joining; married, single or widower; address. This consignment consists of a single volume containing entries with a date range of c1918 to 1924. In addition there are, within the volume, a number of loose pages which record similar information. They are only part of an alphabetical list, and have a date range of c1940 to 1943. Most names do not appear in both the volume and loose pages.

In some instances additional information has been written on the lines between entries which may include the job or type of work for which the person was employed, reference to service in the armed forces, and when the person ceased employment. Some entries have been crossed out and others amended. On entry "M" married might have a number written within which may indicate the number of children of the employee. Recorded under "R" in the volume is a list of names headed "Returned Soldiers employed at Widows Homes". Some entries on the loose sheets include a reference number the purpose of which has not been established.
