Full description

This series records the names of those members present at the various sittings of Parliament. The P1 consignment comprises five volumes:

Vol. 1 is handwritten and dated for the year 1860. It records the names of those members present on the calling of the Orders of the Day and also those present at the Motion for Adjournment.

Vol. 2, dated June - July 1884, has a different format. The names of members are printed and a handwritten note after the last completed page indicates that By-Law 58 was rescinded on August 5, 1884. This may explain why the volume was discontinued. In the new volume is a section for addresses of members.

Vol. 3 only records addresses of members and is dated 1889. It only records the town of abode rather than a full address.

Vol. 4 and 5 resume the series at 1954 and again the format changes. A system of ticking against the names of members present at a particular sitting, especially those present after midnight, appears to have been adopted. Division Lists have been used for this purpose. Apparently the practice was adopted to determine eligibility for living away from home allowances. Letters are found in these two volumes relating to this subject.
