Full description

This series consists of a register of inward correspondence received by the Office of the Inspector-General of the Insane, known as the Lunacy Department. The correspondence is registered in annual single number order.

Details recorded in the register include:

- the registration number,
- date received,
- from where received,
- number and date of document,
- a very brief precis of the correspondence,
- the outcome of the transaction.

Much of the correspondence has been sent on to the Chief Secretary and can be found within the Inward Correspondence of the Chief Secretary's Office, VPRS 3992.

The correspondence is indexed at the front of each volume under the following subjects:
