VPRS 7139 Inward Correspondence Files, Annual Single Number

Full description

This series comprises files created by the Department of Minerals and Energy. Files contain papers relating to ministerial and departmental secretariat matters, the Management Services, Energy and Policy and Planning Divisions of the department and some matters relating to other divisions/sections of the Department.

Subjects include: aboriginal affairs, personnel matters, government departments and bodies, accidents, accommodation, accounting, advertising, private companies, appliances, arts, atomic energy, audit, statutory authorities, institutes, councils, committees, specific resources (e.g. coal), unions, city councils, communications, contracts, E.D.P, delegations, employment and training, energy, divisions of the Department, industrial relations, law/legal/legislation, miners rights, mining, Ombudsman, Parliament, pipelines, planning, public relations, publications, records management, travel, United Nations, water, Victorian Public Service, wages and salaries, etc.. 

Files are arranged in an annual single number sequence. VPRS 7166 is a partial index to the series, which identifies the authors of correspondence for the years 1979 - 1981 only. 

It appears this series was established after the 1977 merger of the Ministry of Fuel and Power with the Department of Mines to create the Department of Energy and Minerals. However, it appears that separate files were created by the Secretariat of the Department (refer to VPRS 5916), and it wasn’t until 1984 that a project was established to incorporate those files within this series. Secretariat files not absorbed into this series can be found within VPRS 5916.
