This series consists of a volume into which was pasted correspondence, circulars and memoranda received by the Department of  Mines and Water Supply, and later the Mines Department, relating to departmental of government wide polices or procedures. In addition to items from the department itself, specific documents pasted into the volume were received from a range of bodies including the Premier's Office, Public Service Commissioner, State Superannuation Board, Treasury and Department of Public Works.In addition to items from the department, Legal opinions are documented within some of the pasted items. It is unclear whether this is a definitive collection of all polices and procedures or whether it was a volume with relevance only within a part of the department.

Items have been pasted into the volume in chronological order. 

This series was originally identified and  documented by a service provider.  An evaluation of the supplied documentation in 2025 amended the series title from the original Public Service Guidelines and Instructions and added this series description.
