VPRS 6960 Mining Registrar's Register of Liens, Omeo Mining Divison

This series consists of a volume to which 10 looseleaf pages have been attached which acts as the Register of Liens for the Omeo Mining Division in the Gippsland Mining District.

One of the duties of the Mining Registrar was to register all liens. A mining lien is a legal agreement available to individuals who haven't been paid for work or supplies provided at a mine by holding an amount due against mine giving the lien holders priority over most other creditors. 

Entries in the register are recorded across a folio (i.e double page) and records the lien registration number, date of registration, subject of lien, mine's right number and date, holder of lien, name or number of the mining company that is subject to the lien, locality, nature and extent of subject of the lien, when payable and, if appropriate, references to the transfer of the lien. 

This series was originally identified and documented by a service provider. An evaluation of the supplied documentation in 2025 established that the Mines Department had incorrectly been recorded as the recording agency rather than the Gippsland Mining District. This was corrected and minor amendments made to the series title and this series description.
