VPRS 6248 Microfilm Copy of Letters Pertaining to Port Phillip District and Western Port Settlement Held by State Records, New South Wales

This series consists of a single reel of microfilm that contains three series all held by State Records New South Wales. It would appear that the copy was made by or for Public Record Office Victoria in 1984 as the records pertain to either the Port Phillip District or the Western Port Settlement.

The series (in the order they appear on the film) are

;(i) Letters received from the Sub-Collector of Customs, Port Phillip by thre Collector and Controller of Customs, NSW. (State Records NSW reference no. 4/7074) 1 volume. Date range: 23 October 1836 - 26 November 1840.

(ii) Copies of letters to Port Phillip by the Colonial Secretary, NSW. (State Records NSW reference no. 4/3867) 1 volume. Date range: 2 August 1839 - 31 December 1840.

This volume contains copies of letters to Charles LaTrobe, Superintendent of the Port Phillip whilst still in Sydney and then in Port Phillip. It also contains letters to other officials at Port [Phillip./ An index is located at the front of the volume.

(iii) Copies of letters sent to and received from the Western Port Settlement. (State Records NSW reference no. 4/7032) 1 volume. Date range: 1826 - 1828.

This volume contains correspondence sent to and received from the Commandant of the western Port Settlement, Captain Wright. It includes his instructions and continues until around the time the settlement was abandoned.

This volume contains correspondence from the Colonial Secretary and Commissariat Department to the Commandant together with lists of convicts sent, manifests and way bills of stores and cargo shipped on various vessels for the settlement, memoranda of slop clothing for the convicts, invoices of medicines supplied, lists of livestock despatched and plants and seeds from the Botanic Gardens in Sydney.
