The fund was made available to reimburse people whose money had been misappropriated by a licensed agent. Claims were made in writing to the Registry/Board. Registration fees paid by agents financed the fund.This series consists of Guarantee Fund Claims Records. Files were created for each claim on the Fund. Estate agents were responsible for negotiating the exchange of land, property and businesses. Victorian legislation has defined this as the function of estate agents since the proclamation of the Estate Agents Act in June 1956. This Act required a Registry of Estate Agents to be established and a registrar to be appointed to oversee their administration. The Registry, and subsequently the Estate Agents Board was also required to administer the Estate Agents Guarantee Fund. The Guarantee Fund was established by section 43 of the Act.
