This series brings together a variety of disparate records created by Creswick Courts, the Creswick Mining Division of the Ballarat Mining District and the Creswick office of the Department of Crown Lands and Survey. It is most likely that all three were located within the Creswick Court House as was frequently the practice throughout country Victoria.Contents include:
- court documentation relating mostly to the Creswick Court of Petty Sessions, but also the Creswick County Court and Creswick Court of General Sessions
- mining leases, claims and complaints for the Creswick Mining Warden or Court of Mines
- inwards correspondence received by the local office of the Department of Crown Lands and Survey.
All of the records in this series was gather by a collector named E. (Edwin) J Semmens whose collection of records from the Creswick area was deposited with the University of Melbourne Archives in 1976. In 1984, the University Archivist, Frank Strahan, identified those items which were in effect public records and transferred these to the Public Record Office.
