Full description

From the period of its establishment in 1856 through to 1944 the library had been administered by a Board of Trustees who was responsible for managing and controlling the Public Library, National Museum, Industrial and Technology Museum and the National Gallery and to formulate policy in regard to these agencies. In 1944 separate boards of Trustees were established for each agency.

According to the Libraries Act 1928 the Trustees were required to report annually the proceedings of the corporation during the previous year to the Chief Secretary.
