In 1901, the first opening of the Commonwealth Parliament by the Duke of York took place at the Exhibition Buildings. The new Parliament was to subsequently meet at the Victorian Parliament House until the move to Canberra in 1927.This series consists of invitation cards sent to Victorian Members of Parliament for the Swearing-in Ceremony for the Governor-General and associated events in Sydney on January 01, 1901 and for events associated with the Opening of the Commonwealth Parliament in Melbourne. These consist of invitation and entre cards for various events, including the opening, and cards for places in stands and at other vantage points for processions and parades. A full Official Program of Events is included as well as a copy of the Proclamation of the Commonwealth by Queen Victoria.
