Full description
In 1901, the first opening of the Commonwealth Parliament by the Duke of York took place at the Exhibition Buildings. The new Parliament was to subsequently meet at the Victorian Parliament House until the move to Canberra in 1927.This series consists of the Rough Minutes made by the General Secretary during meetings of VA 4186 Cabinet Sub-Committee for Commonwealth Celebrations. These Minutes record the process of making all the arrangements for the celebrations sponsored by the State Government to mark the occasion, as well as the arrangements for the opening itself and for the Royal Visit. These Rough Minutes are written in point form and in shorthand. From these notes the official Minutes held in VPRS 5734 Minute Books would have been written up.
