In 1901, the first opening of the Commonwealth Parliament by the Duke of York took place at the Exhibition Buildings. The new Parliament was to subsequently meet at the Victorian Parliament House until the move to Canberra in 1927.This series consists of the Ledger detailing the expenditure of VA 4186 Cabinet Sub-Committee for Commonwealth Celebrations for the events staged and hospitality offered for the opening of the Commonwealth Parliament. For each class of expenditure, details are given of the particulars of the expenditure, the amount, the date, the Register Number of the Account (as seen in VPRS 5733 Register of Accounts) the name of the claimant and then details of the subclass of expenditure. A full Summary of receipts and expenditure for the occasion is provided at the end of the record.
