This series registers correspondence received at the Chief Secretary's Department from such individuals and/or organisations as the Prime MInister, the Chief Commissioner of Police and the Premier and /or the Premier's Department. Details given are the date of the communication, the subject matter, to whom the correspondence was referred, the date upon which it was referred and subsequent action.Correspondence dealt with such matters as:
- the furnishing of information of defence value to foreign interests
- the provision of military protection against the possible sabotage of vulnerable points inder the control of civil bodies
- arrangements for the selection of sites for such purposes as military detention barracks, military prisons and internment camps
- censorship in time of war;
- power to close unlicensed premises and
- police acting as authorised persons in relation to the Communist Party Dissolution Act.
It should be noted that pages 5-8 and 26-29 have been removed.
