This series consists of observation registers, in which prison officers recorded details of their attendance upon prisoners under special observation procedures. The pages are headed: Prisoners to be watched during the night to ascertain whether they are asleep or not.Officers checked on prisoners several times over the night and recorded A (asleep) or S (sleeping) in the register as appropriate. Sometimes the officers remarks are recorded, usually notes on aspects of the prisoners behaviour, and any incidents (such as suicide attempts) are also recorded. Any medication given to prisoners is also recorded in the register by the officer on duty.
