This series is the Court of Petty Sessions official record of its business with regard to the granting, annual renewal and transfer of second-hand dealer licenses.Under the Second-Hand Dealers Acts of 1918 and 1920, persons wishing to trade as second-hand dealers needed to be licensed. Prescribed penalties applied for unlicensed dealers. This license was to be applied for with the endorsement of five householders in the trading area. A report had to be provided by the local police on the appropriateness of issuing such a license or permitting its transfer to another individual.
Applications were to be considered by a Court of Petty Sessions with the applicant being able to be granted a licence if considered a fit and proper person to hold such a license.
Information recorded in these registers was a number; date of application; full name and address of the dealer (or transferor or proposed transferee); name and rank of any objector (if any); date of objection and decision and a remarks column.
