VPRS 5157 Bill Copying and Distribution List

Full description

This series records the production of copies of Bills for distribution amongst members of the Legislative Council. In chronological order the series records the short title of the bill, date issued, number issued and date and number of copies received. It also notes the production of roneo copies or if the Legislative Assemblys copies were used. Hence it fortuitously provides a record of the introduction of Bills into the Victorian Parliament.

There is an index at the front of each volume by short title of bill that refers to the page number(s) within the volume. VPRS 5157/P unit 1 has had the bulk of the volume ripped out prior to transfer to PROV (at a time and by persons unknown) and all that remains is the index at the front. The Index is titled Proceedings on Bills. The index records the passage of each bill in the Legislative Council and Legislative Assembly, either with a tick or the date of passage. The last 2 columns on each page (Discharged, Lapsed) most commonly record the number of the Act when the Bill is passed by both houses and becomes legislation. If for some reason the Bill is not passed or is withdrawn this is recorded in the last 2 columns.
