Full description
At the death of John Batman in 1839 his will was described as being complicated, rigid and out of date. Real estate listed and bequeathed in the will had already been sold and verified debts exceeded his personal assets with the executors held themselves powerless to release the three remaining allotments of land held by Batman. Legal proceedings on behalf of Batmans younger daughters were taken in 1842 with the case continuing to drag on in chancery. This series consists of the papers related to this lengthy legal suit for the settlement of John Batmans estate.
