Each entry is signed and stamped by the Clerk or Deputy Clerk of the Court. The minutes contain a summary only of each investigation. Full description

This series consists of the minutes of the Court of Marine Inquiry (VA 2584).

The minutes document the meetings of the Court where the members were assembled to investigate marine incidents. The Court was authorised to hold formal investigations into casualties and into charges of incompetency or misconduct on the part of masters, mates, engineers, and pilots.

The minute book in custody covers investigations numbered from 181 to 230, dating from 22 July 1908 to 13 April 1927. Incident numbers beginning at 1 were allocated by the Marine Board of Victoria (VA 1424). Incidents are mostly covered in numerical order. Each entry contains:
  • Names of vessel/s involved
  • Members of the Court
  • Names of witnesses
  • Brief summary of the incident
  • Abridged outcome of the Court investigation and any costs granted.

Each entry is signed and stamped by the Clerk or Deputy Clerk of the Court.
