Full description

This series comprises volumes recording the swearing in of Magistrates of the Supreme Court of Victoria (VA 2549). The registers contain the wording of the oath of supremacy, oath of abjuration, oath of office, declaration and the name, dates and signatures of the magistrates who took these oaths.  

Additionally, the first register also contains the oaths and signatures for a range of other positions prior to the establishment of the Colony of Victoria in 1851, including but not limited to Charles Joseph Latrobe, Superintendent of the Port Phillip District of New South Wales and the first four resident judges of the Port Phillip District: John Walpole Willis, William Jeffcott and Roger Therry and William A’ Beckett.
