The Gold Fields Act 1857 and subsequent mining legislation (such as the Mining Statute 1865, section 181) required Mining Wardens (in their judicial function) to keep a record of all decisions and orders made. The Mining Warden's Register records details of each case including the case number, the date of the complaint, the names and addresses of the complainant(s) and defendant(s), the nature of the complaint and the value or amount sought and the decision and signature of the Warden.
