The volume appears to be what was known as a 'copy book', a bound volume containing several hundred very thin pages similar to tissue paper. The letters would have been written on separate paper, than placed between pages of this book - one of which had been dampened to accept the transfer of ink to the page. Thus a copy of the outward correspondence of the trustees was recorded and retained while the original letter could be sent out. The volume also contains a pre-printed alphabetical index section at the front. Several letters have been indexed in this section, with their page number recorded. It appears the trustees may have chosen to index particular significant correspondence here, such as the appointment of new trustees and a letter to the Chief Secretary. This book contains outward correspondence from 1878 to 1918. &rft.creator=Walhalla Cemetery Trust &rft.date=2025&rft.coverage=141.000000,-34.000000 142.919336,-34.145604 144.582129,-35.659230 147.742627,-35.873175 150.024219,-37.529041 150.200000,-39.200000 141.000000,-39.200000 141.000000,-34.000000 141.000000,-34.000000&rft_subject=HISTORICAL STUDIES&rft_subject=HISTORY AND ARCHAEOLOGY&rft.type=dataset&rft.language=English Access the data

Full description

The series consists of an outgoing letter book from the trustees of the Walhalla Cemetery (VA 3010).
