Full description
This series consists of area tests performed by the Victorian Electrolysis Committee (VA 5651) to investigate electrolysis in Melbourne in the 1920s and 1930s.The records contain testing charts and testing for electrolysis faults in several suburbs of Melbourne. In the 1920s, electrolysis was identified as a problem in Melbourne, causing damage to underground telegraph cables and other metal infrastructure. These area tests document the early days of testing electrolysis mitigation methods in Melbourne, before the practice became routine.
Area tests from the 1940s onward are not retained permanently as State Archives.
