Full description

This series comprises a collection of photographic prints created and collected by Geological Survey Victoria (GSV) (VA 4118) and its various parent departments from around 1860 to 1978. Subjects depict a variety of mining-related activities across Victoria and feature key staff, mines, mining equipment, onshore and offshore operations, small and large operations, infrastructure, buildings, and formal and informal gatherings.

As well as documenting key developments in Victoria’s mining operations, photographs were likely taken for promotional and advertising purposes, as well as for publications such as annual reports.
