VPRS 19427 Mining Company Records Lodged with the Court of Mines

This series contains records created by Mining Companies that were wound up and were likely deposited with the Court of Mines in Beechworth.

Section 23 of the Mining Companies Act 1871 contained a provision that required the manager of a mining company to deposit the company's register of shareholders and other books of documents in his possession with the Clerk of the local Court of Mines when the company had ceased to carry on business for 6 months without the company being wound up.  Section 70 of the Act also stated that when a winding up order was made, the property of company 'shall vest in the Clerk of the Court of Mines'. 

The records in this series all relate to the Junction Dredging Company are believed to have been lodged with the Court of Mines in Beechworth and research is still required to confirm when this occurred. No other records lodged with court by other companies are currently understood to exist.
