Full description
This series comprises annual reports of the Victorian Infectious Diseases Reference Laboratory (VIDRL).
VIDRL has its origins in the Department of Pathology, at the specialist infectious diseases hospital Fairfield Infectious Diseases Hospital (VA 1231), which closed in 1996. VIDRL was formally designated as a Victorian public health reference laboratory supporting the Department of Health (VA 2695) in 1992. After Fairfield’s closure management of VIDRL transferred to the North Western Health Care Network (VA 5262) and its facilities relocated to North Melbourne in 1998.
The annual reports provide a summary of the activities including research for each year. This is organised into sections, grouping VIDRL's scientific work at the state, national and international level and includes reports of research activities and new developments in laboratory operations. Also included in the reports are details of staffing, technology and quality activities, investigations into disease outbreaks, and lists of publications by staff.
