In  February 2004 the Hospital Ethics Committee was renamed the Clinical Ethics Committee. Its terms of reference were: to facilitate the discussion of ethical issues relating to patient care and to health care in general. This included health promotion, community education and participation. This series comprises the minutes and papers of the Clinical Ethics Committee of the Royal Melbourne Hospital (VA 1048).

Previously known as the Hospital Ethics Committee, it was formed in August 1990. Its role was to serve as a focus for discussion of ethical issues relating to patient care, and to  provide education in ethics for health care providers. This education included: training regarding differences of beliefs and values; introduction of new technologies; and provision of advice to patients, next-of-kin and guardians.

In  February 2004 the Hospital Ethics Committee was renamed the Clinical Ethics Committee. Its terms of reference were: to facilitate the discussion of ethical issues relating to patient care and to health care in general. This included health promotion, community education and participation.

Prior to transfer to Public Record Office Victoria, the records in this series were maintained as part of the Royal Melbourne Hospital Archives.
